Convert PDF to Slides

TL;DR; Upload a .pdf at lupo.ai/projects/aipdf2pptx — it's PDF → Slides in the Create menu. Lupo turns it into a .pptx using one of three modes — Replication, Smart, or AI Enhancement. You get the PowerPoint back by email, then you can run it through Create Video From PowerPoint to produce a video.

Most operational knowledge lives in PDFs: SOPs, compliance manuals, product datasheets, one-pagers. This tool takes that PDF and turns it into slides, which you can then turn into a video.

When to use this tool

Use PDF → Slides when:

  • Your starting material is a .pdf, not a deck.
  • You want editable output — a .pptx you can clean up in PowerPoint before moving on.
  • You want to decide how "faithful" the conversion should be: copy the layout as closely as possible, restructure it into proper slides, or let AI rebuild the deck.

Step 1 — Open the tool

Go to lupo.ai/projects/aipdf2pptx. The page is titled Convert PDF to PowerPoint with AI, and you'll also find it in the Create menu as PDF → Slides. It shows three steps across the top — Upload, Configure, Submit & track — and a single drop area.

Step 2 — Drop your PDF

Drag a .pdf onto the drop area (or click Select a file). Nothing uploads yet: picking the file opens a settings dialog with the choices below. The upload only starts when you click Convert to PowerPoint at the bottom of that dialog; Cancel closes it and forgets the file.

Step 3 — Pick a conversion mode

This is the most important choice on the page. Choose conversion mode: offers three options:

  • Replication — Lupo reproduces the PDF pages as closely as possible, with editable text and the original fonts, colors, and positions preserved. Use this when the PDF was already designed as a presentation and you just want to get the content into PowerPoint so you can edit it.
  • Smart — Lupo reads the structure of the content (titles, headings, bullet lists), picks a slide layout for each part, and applies a clean theme. It keeps your wording; no AI rewriting is involved.
  • AI Enhancement — Lupo's AI reads the content and builds a structured deck from it (title, section, content, two-column, and image layouts), making editorial decisions along the way: summaries, bullet points, restructured flow. Use this when the source PDF is dense. If the AI step fails, Lupo falls back to Smart mode. This is what's selected when the dialog opens.

Step 4 — (AI Enhancement only) Pick a model

In AI Enhancement mode a second picker appears, Choose AI model:, with two options:

  • Standard — the default, selected when the dialog opens.
  • Fast — lighter and faster, good for short documents or quick drafts.

Switch to Replication or Smart and this picker disappears. The knowledge base and the Advanced options below are also only available in AI Enhancement mode — in the other two modes they're greyed out with the notes "Knowledge base is only available with AI Enhancement mode." and "Advanced options are only available with AI Enhancement mode.", because those modes follow the source PDF more literally.

Step 5 — (Optional) Knowledge base and Advanced options

In AI Enhancement mode, you can attach a knowledge base under Optional knowledge base (PDF/TXT/MD) (.pdf / .txt / .md, up to 10 MB) to give Lupo your style guide, terminology, or reference material.

Below it is an Advanced options switch ("Turn on to customize language and prompt. Stays off unless you select it. Only available with AI Enhancement mode."). Everything in this step lives inside that switch: if you leave it off, the language stays on Auto and no prompt or extra emails are sent, even if you typed them earlier. Turn it on and you'll see:

  • Preferred language — the picker offers Auto (infer from PDF content), English and Spanish. Today Auto behaves as English: unless you pick Spanish, AI Enhancement writes the deck in English and translates a source written in another language. Pick Spanish if you want a Spanish deck.

  • Customize conversion (optional) — a short prompt (up to 600 characters) telling the AI how to structure and style the slides. The same templates as the narration tool are available under Templates (replace current text):

    • Default — executive-friendly, concise, define acronyms.
    • Executive concise — short bullets, outcome-focused, clear next actions.
    • Stakeholder update — status update format.
    • Sales pitch (CTA) — persuasive narrative with a call to action.
    • Training / How-to — step-by-step training deck.
    • Longer narrative — more context per slide.

    Click a template to fill the prompt in, edit if needed, undo with Undo (Ctrl+Z).

  • Optional Additional Emails (comma separated): — other people who should get the "ready" email besides you.

Step 6 — Convert

Click Convert to PowerPoint. The page reports progress under the drop area: Uploading knowledge base... (only if you attached one), then Uploading PDF..., then Uploaded. Starting PDF to PowerPoint conversion..., and finally Conversion started. You'll receive an email with the PowerPoint file once it's ready.

Close the tab. You'll get an email when it's done.

Step 7 — Wait for the email and iterate

When the email arrives, you'll receive a .pptx file. Open it in PowerPoint and expect to do a cleanup pass:

  • Fix anything the conversion got wrong. Text extraction from PDFs is rarely perfect — tables, images, and multi-column layouts sometimes come out odd.
  • Add speaker notes. The PDF-to-slides step produces the slides, not the narration. If you want the deck narrated, write the notes yourself or run the result through Generate Narration From PowerPoint.
  • Then produce the video. Run the cleaned-up .pptx through Create Video From PowerPoint.

The three-step chain

This tool is a natural first step. A common workflow looks like:

  1. PDF → Slides — turns the PDF into a deck.
  2. PowerPoint → Narration — adds a first-draft script to the notes.
  3. PowerPoint → Video — produces the final video.

Each step gives you a chance to review and edit before moving on. That's intentional: the output of each step is a file you can open, read, and fix.
