Welcome!

Trash, Restore and the 30-Day Window

TL;DR; Deleting a library, a folder or a file never removes it outright — it goes to a trash you can restore from for 30 days, after which it's purged automatically. The trash page is the only place the product says so, so this page is where it's explained.

Before you start

See Libraries and folders — only an empty library or folder can be sent to the trash in the first place, and sending a library there is a platform-owner action.

Steps

  1. There are two separate trash views. Deleted Libraries is department-level and only a platform owner can open it. Deleted Items, one per library, holds the folders and files deleted from inside that library, and anyone who manages the library's content — a Company Administrator or Knowledge Base Manager — can open it from the library's Trash button.

  2. Restore brings an item back, but only if its parent is still alive — a folder whose library was itself deleted can't be restored until the library comes back first, and the UI greys out anything in that state with "Restore the parent folder first, then this item can be restored."

  3. If the name you're restoring collides with something already using it, Lupo auto-suffixes the restored copy — (restored), then (restored 2) — rather than blocking the restore.

  4. A restored file comes back to the library, but not to Ask Lupo: its entry was dropped from the search index when it was deleted, and restoring doesn't put it back. Re-index the file (or the library) once it's restored if it needs to be searchable again — see Re-indexing content.

  5. Anything left in the trash for 30 days is purged automatically by a background job that runs every 6 hours. This includes deleting the underlying file from storage and removing it from Ask Lupo's search index.

What this doesn't do

There's no reminder before something ages out of the trash. The trash page itself is the whole warning: a note that "Items are permanently deleted 30 days after being moved to trash," and, on each row, "Will be permanently deleted on" followed by the date. Nothing else in the product mentions it.

Common issues

Something I trashed a month ago is just gone. — Expected once it passes 30 days; the automatic purge doesn't ask before running. If it disappeared sooner than that, check with your Lupo contact — the purge job has an off switch for exactly this kind of investigation.
